January 28 @ 11:00 am - 12:15 pm

As part of Data Privacy Day, University of Toronto’s (U of T) Information Security team is hosting a virtual webinar panel, open to staff, faculty and students.

This webinar will focus on technology’s growing impact on our privacy. Panelists include a range of subject matter experts who will answer questions about the importance of protecting our personal information and highlighting the steps we can take to do so.

Speakers:

  • Ron Deibert, founder and director of the Citizen Lab at the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy
Deibert has overseen and been a contributing author to more than 120 reports covering path breaking research on cyber espionage, commercial spyware, internet censorship and human rights. In this panel, he will provide insight into how the insecurities of the digital ecosystem create opportunities for exploitation, featuring our work on commercial espionage industries.
  • Ashley Langille, information privacy analyst
Langille enables practical solutions that allow the U of T community to achieve their goals while implementing good privacy practices. In this panel, she will discuss the ways she and her team assess the legal and operational risks related to the management of sensitive and critical information assets at the University.
  • Andrew Petersen, associate professor, Teaching Stream, Department of Mathematical and Computational Sciences, UTM
Petersen’s primary research interest is in computer science education, with a special focus on introductory education. In this panel, he will lend perspective on how University policy intersects teaching practice.
